  • Start With A Prayer

    • Preparing for 1st Communion is not like school.  You will learn some things.  The most important thing you will do is visit with Jesus, your friend, as you learn. Let's invite him into our hearts by making the sign of the cross...

In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.....

Now watch and pray along with the video....

    • THE FEAST:

Watch the video then answer the questions below:

      1. What "ran out" at the wedding?
      2. What does Mary say to the servants after talking to Jesus?
      3. The water that Jesus turned into wine was it better, worse or the same as the wine that the guests had first?

Something to think about: This Bible story tells us something about the Mass - which is a heavenly wedding feast.

    • Feeding 5000:

Watch the video then answer the questions below.

      1. Was there enough food in the beginning?
      2. After Jesus gave thanks was there enough food? More than enough?

Something to think about: This Bible story also tells us something about the Mass.  Jesus gives us HIMSELF as the bread of life in the Mass.

  • PART 3: christ is our light craft

    • get ready

To finish off Part 1, it's time to grab some white liquid glue and create special memento to remind us to keep the flame of faith alive in our hearts and famililes.

      You will need:

      • White liquid glue
      • Disposable cup or bowl for the glue
      • The supply kit you picked up at the church (No kit? Email Katherine!)
    • get crafting

This craft is a little sticky! Having a damp cloth nearby to wipe your child’s hands might help. Before you begin, consider having a washable placemat in place to help make clean up easier.

      1. Start by mixing your glue to be about 2 parts glue one part water in a disposable cup or bowl. You won’t need much, a little goes a long way. Stir till mixed.
      2. Turn the clear cup upside down on a washable placemat on the work surface and paint the outside of the cup in sections with the glue mixture. Stick the tissue paper on it as you go, so the glue doesn’t dry.
      3. Try overlapping the tissue paper, as it makes different colours.
      4. Once the cup is all covered with the tissue paper squares, paint over all of the tissue paper with the glue mixture to make it smooth. (Fancy!)
      5. When the glue is dry, add the stained glass window sticker to the front. Get an adult to help you write "Christ our Light" on the cup with permanent marker.
      6. Put the candle inside and let your light shine! The effect of the candle behind the tissue paper is like a stained glass window!

    • Why a candle?

This candle reminds us of Jesus’ love for us and how he is a light for us on our faith journey. Jesus asks us to be a light for others. Consider lighting this candle each time you begin to do your First Communion Preparation, at meals and during bedtime prayers.

Each person is unique, like the many colours of the stained glass. When Jesus shines through us our unique light is a gift to the whole world!

This candle is lit as a symbol of the light of Christ burning in our hearts. Where might be a good place to put this in your home?

    • no kit? need help?

  • PRAYERS TO TRY & to LEARN

    • Our Father

Our Father, who are in heaven,
      Hallowed be thy name
      Thy kingdom come,
Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven
Give us this day our daily bread,
      And forgive us our trespasses,
As we forgive those who trespass against us, And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
      Amen.

    • HAIL MARY

      Hail Mary, full of grace
      The Lord is with thee.
      Blessed are you
      among women,
      And blessed is the fruit
      of your womb, Jesus.
      Holy Mary, Mother of God
Pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death.

      Amen.

    • Glory Be

      Glory to the Father
      and to the Son,
      and to the Holy Spirit;
As it was in the beginning,
is now and will be forever.

      Amen.

    • Prayer after Communion

      My Jesus,
I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament.
I love You above all things,
and I welcome You into my soul.
      Stay close with me always,
so I may follow you forever.

      AMEN.
